About Roundbol
The Roundbol Origin Story
Franko didn't set out to invent a new sport. He just wanted to play soccer on the beach. Frustrated by small goals resulting in lazy defense, he drew on his lacrosse experience to test out an idea. Make the goals round, and inset from the backline so there is space to operate and score on a 360 degree target. On a late September afternoon in Venice CA, the first pick up Roundbol game was played. Using a softer volleyball and trash cans along the beach, he marked out the pitch and circular creases with a heel in the sand. No overthinking. No committees. Just friends, sun, and the kind of game that makes you forget you're getting a workout.
Roundbol is what happens when you strip futbol down to its best parts and rebuild it for real life. Small spaces. Flexible rules. Gear you can store in the trunk. It's originally designed for the beach, but playable anywhere. Dirt backyard, grass park, turf soccer field or even a concrete driveway, 3v3 (competition play) is ideal, but more or less players work just fine and is super fun. No goalies, and no referees or field permits required. And here's the thing: you don't even need official anything. We built this game with creativity and inclusion in mind. Grab a ball, set up some round goals, and play with our simple set of rules that inspires a new take on the beautiful game. Whether sharpening your ball skills, working on finesse and touch, or just burning energy with the kids... Roundbol is a way to make playing fun in any setting. Born in the sand. Playable anywhere.
